VESTLAND MARITIME CORPORATION is an accredited ship manning agency that contracts, enlists and recruits qualified Filipino seafarers for foreign principals with international ocean-going vessels.
It was founded and set up in 2002 by a group of veteran mariners and a Norwegian principal. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) officially registered us on August 5, 2002 and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) granted our license on January 3, 2003.
A year after our company was founded, we were only operating three (3) chemical and oil tankers under the fleet of our Norwegian principal. We proved our reliability and quality of personalized services when the same principal entrusted us with eight (8) more ships to manage within two years. We are currently servicing the same principal and have formed strong bonds with several others. We now proudly provide manpower to ships under the fleets of our principals based in Norway and in Poland.
The company has been in business for more than ten years, and we have built strong bonds and enduring relationships with our trade partners and clients. This is primarily due to our emphasis on building confidence and trust with the people we serve and the individuals we work with. It is a testament to our steadfast commitment of providing employment opportunities for Filipino seafarers. We take great pride in improving the quality of our seafarers’ lives while working for us.
With the experiences of most of our founders, having been seamen for a long time, our firm is in sync with the reality of the seafaring lifestyle. We make it part of our organizational culture to keep an open line of communication with our personnel and their families. A less bureaucratic management style adopted by incumbent leadership helps develop a culture of openness among our staff, making important decisions easier. Our small but reliable team will assist both clients and personnel in the most efficient manner possible.
Vestland Maritime Corporation is managed by six hardworking personnel. The President acts as the General Manager, while five multi-tasking employees work cooperatively with him.
The General Manager (GM) oversees the day-to-day operations of the firm. He answers to the Board of Directors, headed by the President and four other directors assigned as Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and a Board member.
Under the General Manager (GM)is the Officer-in-Charge for Administration and Finance (OIC, AF) and the Crew Coordinator (CC). The CC takes charge of all the crewing-related operations of the company (the core function of the business), while the OIC, AF is the right hand of the GM and oversees all administrative functions and financial transactions of the enterprise.
The CC primarily handles the pooling, screening, and selection of potential crew applicants. S/he is supported by a Documentation Officer (DO) and a Liaison Officer (LO).
The DO secures the documents of the crew and makes sure that the employed crew complies with all the required qualifications and travel documents before they are deployed.
The LO must closely coordinate with the DO while processing the Contract of Employment, Flag Endorsement and/or Visa Requirements of the crew. S/He must also make certain that the manned vessels of the company and their principals are accredited and enrolled with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
The OIC, AF is mostly assisted by the Account Officer (AO) who must ensure that all financial transactions of the company are properly documented. S/he has to be certain that all financial statements are prepared punctually, and all mandatory reports and/or contributions from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Social Security System (SSS), Philippine Health Insurance (PHIC) andHome Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) are complied with and/or paid on a timely basis.
Vestland also hires an Auditor and a Lawyer on a retainer basis. The former makes sure that all financial statements of the enterprise comply with required regulations, while the latter gives the General Manager advice when legal opinions and expertise are needed.
